Demo is out of Beta! Version 1.0.0 Changelog!

The full, finished, still-entirely-too-full-of-compromises Diorama Break demo is here! Here is the big list of changes from the last beta version:

  • Implemented a ton of new sound effects and some new music
  • Added spatialization to some sounds
  • Actions now display their aim range when targeting or hovering them in the action select menu. Similarly, enemy units now show the range of their actions when selected.
  • Added some new full art cgs to certain cutscenes
  • General editing pass of all dialogue for clarity
  • Added a special new rest point conversation near the end of the demo
  • Slightly reworked early intro to give the player control for brief moment
  • Added a list of controls in the pause menu
  • Combat action descriptions are now shown in inventory and equipment menus
  • Name tags in dialogue for minor NPCs
  • Important terms are now highlighted when they first appear
  • The game will now pop up a visual indicator when it saves
  • Slightly reduced boss attack ranges
  • Minor fixes to camera in certain cutscenes
  • Minor font changes
  • Added a few new character portraits in certain cutscenes
  • Several minor fixes to characters using the wrong sprites in cutscenes
  • Other minor stage polish and depth-sorting fixes

And in case you didn't notice, there's also a shiny new trailer up on the main store page! And the demo is on Steam now too!

A huge thank you to everyone who played and left feedback on the beta! Many of the improvements since February would likely not have happened without you. While I'm sad I wasn't able to get to everyone's feedback (especially for more recent respondents), you've all given me a lot to think about for the full game.

While there's still a ton that could be improved with this demo, I've committed to not letting the "good enough" be the enemy of the "totally shippable bro". With that said, and even if I'll probably still be working on this demo for weeks to come, this is nevertheless a version I'm truly proud of and ready to share far and wide.

And speaking of the full game, I can finally confirm that we'll be launching a Kickstarter to help fund it on April 28th! If you enjoyed the demo and want to see the full project realized, keep an eye out for that and tell your friends! Really. We're still pretty underground, so sharing the demo around is liable to have a big impact.
